Twenty feet of epic craftsmanship that seats 17 for your baby showers, wedding showers, intimate weddings, family reunions and holiday parties. Right outside of this room is additional table seating.

Nestled off FM 536 and a few miles from I-37 in Pleasanton, 4,000 square feet of relaxation and rejuvenation await in an expansive ranch house called Un Lugar de Paz. The venue officially opened in October of 2021 and is far enough off the road that visitors are transported into peacefulness.

Un Lugar de Paz is owned by Kate and Dustin Jasik, who had originally leased the land it sits on to farm hay. The name Un Lugar de Paz is a nod to the Colombian family who owned the house and land. Kate wanted to create a place locally with ample space for families and a venue for small weddings and intimate events like baby and wedding showers.

"My vision for Un Lugar de Paz, which means ‘place of peace,’ was to have a venue in Atascosa County that could be a place of solitude, to rest, refresh and renew. I wanted a place for people to come to unwind and escape everyday mundane tasks of life," said Kate. "My biggest vision was to make this place comfortable where you want to stay. You want to curl up with a book and a nice cup of coffee and relax."

The property has a main house with three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a game room, and a big open barn with working bathrooms, and soon, a kitchen. The barn can accommodate small weddings and parties of 150 people. The sunsets and views behind the property offer a phenomenal backdrop. The special touches in the rustic elegant ranch house include European chandeliers and antique furniture creating a warm and welcoming ambiance and setting.

The inside of the main house is beautifully curated, with unique pieces decorating each room. The pieces originated from thrift stores and antique shops, and some from estate sales. Kate commented, "I just love decorating, but I love it to be unique, and I always remember whenever I was younger and friends would come over, they would always say your bedroom is so cozy … that's what I wanted to do here. And I wanted it to be somewhere that every time you turn somewhere, ‘Oh wow, that's different,’ you know the decor, and then to feel just comfortable and at peace, just a getaway."

The sunsets are so beautiful here that owner Kate Jasik added additional seating outside.

Un Lugar de Paz has a banquet room with a 20-foot-long custom-made banquet table furnished with over 50 European antique leather chairs. There's a center room that's great for desserts and pictures. The house is spacious for parties of around 45-50 people and perfect for company parties, small reunions, spouse getaway weekends, or a friend-cation.

Jasik has picked up pieces from a family-run auction house in San Antonio. The auction has international pieces from France and Spain. Not only is the furniture unique, but so is the artwork. There are birds painted directly on the walls in the bedrooms. A picture hangs above the bar in the kitchen area of a teenage boy on a horse, which is Kate's late grandpa. Her grandfather Lawrence "Larry" Persyn had a big impact on her life.

In fact, Kate said he was the reason she wanted to marry a farmer. Kate's first event at the venue was a dinner following her granddad's funeral which was bittersweet because he did not live to see Un Lugar finished. While Kate was cleaning up the day after the event, his favorite song by Tom T Hall played on the radio. It was a little wink and a hug from above. Kate's eyes welled up with tears as she recalled this sweet memory.

Everyone has a style true to them; Kate's style for Un Lugar came from old Western inspirations. She is a "Gunsmoke" and "Matlock" fan. "I constantly watch the backgrounds to see how they decorate, and whenever I watch old westerns or ‘Gunsmoke,’ they had really cool houses. I watched that and love that feel," she said. "But I wanted something South Texas, you think cowboy, rustic, cactus and horses. I didn't want to go too much that direction because I like the elegance of a French hunting lodge, where it's elegant but cozy."

In 2022 Kate put Un Lugar de Paz on Airbnb to much success. Kate's first five-star review stated, "Kate's house is nothing short of magical. It's surrounded by the most beautiful nature that can instantly soothe your soul. The moment we pulled up and heard the wind chime, we knew that this was a special place. Inside, the house is immaculately clean and decorated to perfection. The beds are, without a doubt, the most comfortable I have ever experienced in an Airbnb. We had dinner at one of the outdoor tables overlooking the field … what a view! Kate was the kindest, most amazing host a person could ask for. 5-star experience all around."
